Here's the Story!
Dee Dee's Day Care and Early Childhood Program is a home-based child care provider that has been servicing the Canarsie neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York since 2002.
In that time it has earned the recognition and reputation from parents and competitors alike for delivering consistent high quality service. The founder and driving force behind this labor of love is Delores Ward.
Known affectionately to her friends as Dee Dee, Delores grew up in the Caribbean paradise of Barbados, where, at an early age she was taught the importance of dedication, attention to detail and conscientious work.
That laid the foundation for a successful banking career in New York that spanned more than 30 years. Delores rose through the ranks in Branch Operations, holding many key positions and eventually headed up several specialized corporate projects.
Those stellar professional achievements were not without serious and difficult personal challenges.
The First Crossroad
While still a young woman, Delores found herself having to manage the responsibility of raising a young son all on her own, while continuing to juggle her career.
She experienced the uncertainty, frustration, concerns and anxiety that many parents encounter when trying to locate a reliable and convenient day care provider for their children.
Little did she know then that that period of her life would one day equip her for her current role as director of her own child care facility.
That was an easy decision to make when she later found herself at yet another crossroad, this time in her career.
The Second Crossroad
In 2001, Delores was caught in the squeeze of a bank merger and given the choice to accept early retirement. But she wasn't ready to embrace a life of leisure, sipping cocktails in a rocking chair. She still wanted to make a contribution.
So, after some introspection and evaluation, Delores decided she would leverage her entrepreneurial spirit to bring dedication and commitment to parents who needed quality day care for their children.
She took up studies in Childcare and Business Management at York College in Queens, in preparation for what has now become her second career; providing a much-needed service in her community as a business owner and founder of Dee Dee's Day Care facility.
Delores' professional achievements, personal trials and work ethic have helped her develop a range of skills which she masterfully applies to running her successful business today — with the cool professionalism of a banker and the loving attention of a mother.
By the way, her son is now a young man on the verge of graduating college.
Delores is a member of the Caribbean American International Childcare Network Inc. located in Brooklyn, New York.
